A morning car accident along Route 9 in Middle Township, New Jersey, left two drivers injured. In addition to the injuries, the accident resulted in significant vehicle damage, according to official police documents.

The three-vehicle accident involved a trash truck, a sport utility vehicle and a privately-owned pickup truck. The 35-year-old driver of the garbage truck was not harmed. At least one victim required extrication from the wreckage, although reports do not specify which driver was affected. The investigation is ongoing and police have suggested that many factors may have been involved in this crash.

The SUV driver reportedly veered into oncoming traffic, first striking the garbage truck and then plowing into the pickup in a head-on collision. The reasons for the careless driving are unknown. The female driver was evacuated in a helicopter to Atlantic City Medical Center. Her condition remains unknown. The 69-year-old pickup driver was taken to Cape Regional Medical Center in an ambulance, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries before being released.

In addition to the driver who swerved into traffic, police suspect that the elderly SUV driver, age 67, may have experienced some kind of medical condition before the accident occurred. Officials are unsure whether road conditions or weather patterns may have had an impact upon the severity of the incident. The state Department of Transportation is also contributing to the investigation efforts.

Luckily, none of the injuries that were reported were life-threatening. Whether or not the victims will continue to suffer from ongoing damages, however, remains to be seen. After the cause of the accident is determined, it may be appropriate for victims to seek compensation for any physical injuries or property damage that resulted.
